Use Case 1 – Operator Coaching

It is well-accepted that operator behavior has a significant impact on the efficiency of mining haul truck operation. The acceleration and deceleration of loads, equipment speed, the amount of lateral travel and cornering technique all contribute to overall haulage efficiency. This notion is one of the strongest arguments for moving towards autonomous haulage. Through the use of SmartRView, operators who are coached, and better still incentivised to improve behavior can be evaluated in terms of their efficiency, safety and productivity. Simply conveying to the operators that fuel consumption and haulage efficiency are being monitored in most cases results in an immediate efficiency boost. SmartRView can produce shift aligned fuel efficiency statistics sensitive to tonnage, distance and vertical travel in order to support operator evaluation. Blutip staff can also assist with the development of programs to reward positive outcomes.

Use Case 2 – Fuel Theft/Loss Detection and Deterrence

SmartRView fuel measurement instrumentation captures only the fuel that is consumed by the engine. Fuel lost to equipment leaks or stolen from depots or directly from equipment tanks is not recorded. This provides an opportunity for reconciliation and the detection of leaks and theft. In the case of theft, knowledge on the part of contractors and employees that fuel distribution is being tracked to the litre may very well be enough to deter this behavior. If not, SmartRView data combined with fuel transfer records can quickly uncover discrepancies. Fuel leaks are even easier to detect by comparing the fuel burned vs. that pumped into a single tank
