Overview

Blutip SmartRFuel technology has been installed on four continents at some of the world's largest mining, construction, power generation, and fuel additives companies. Applications include haul trucks, excavators, dozers, and prime continuous power generators. 

At the Boddington mine in Australia, for example, Blutip helped Newmont Mining reach its environmental sustainability goals. Concerned about the effects of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) on climate change, Newmont installed Blutip’s SmartRFuel technology on three of its Caterpillar 793D haul trucks. In addition to an average fuel burn savings of 5.8%, Newmont achieved a GHG emission reduction of 102 tonnes per year for each truck. Installing Blutip technology on all Newmont haul trucks has the potential to reduce annual GHG emissions by 33,000 tonnes per year. Blutip’s fuel management technology was also employed by mining giant Anglo American in their coal operations in Australia. Anglo American was able to achieve significant fuel savings and longer engine life with Blutip’s SmartRControl deployed at its Dawson, Capcoal, and Drayton mines. Blutip's fuel-saving technology is also deployed at Cerrejón mine in Colombia, a joint venture of Anglo American, Glencore, and BHP Billiton.  At Cerrejón, Blutip's fuel management system is deployed on the mine's truck fleet, and "stands out for its performance, excellence, and professional standards," according to mine representatives.

In addition to helping operators of high-horsepower diesel engines save fuel and reduce particulate emissions, Blutip’s telematics can identify issues such as high idle time and risky driver behavior. Blutip’s data analytics can also be used for operational decision-making such as predicting fuel usage when haul-truck routes change, and to assess the impact of fuel additives on fuel efficiency. For example, for a major oil sands producer, Blutip's SmartRFuel platform provided real-time alerts when dozer engines overheated, improving equipment uptime and reducing lifecycle costs. In addition, for 2 of the big 6 oil producers we have executed fuel consumption and efficiency studies in order to establish the benefits of their premium fuels and additives.
